Golden heron
A Final Push
To truly grasp the essence of this photograph and its title, one must give into its backstory.
The journey commenced in Peru, where I embarked on an intensive 10-day photography expedition. We formed a small group of four individuals, rising at dawn to traverse the Amazonian rainforest in pursuit of wildlife from sunrise to midnight. After enduring this demanding routine for about five to six days, we finally decided to grant ourselves a brief respite, much needed.
Just as we settled down for a moment of rest, I spotted our guide preparing a canoe to continue the search for animals. It was then that I had a profound realization—I needed to mobilise one additional ounce of effort because of the fear of missing out.
On that canoe excursion, as we glided across the serene lake, a miracle unfolded before us. A capped heron took flight, it is not just any heron, but the rarest of its kind in the region. It had eluded us since the beginning of our journey.
In that very moment, I captured this image of the golden heron, a pure embodiment of beauty.
Make one more attempt, and who knows, a golden heron might appear.
